The bottom panel can be opened with a swipe up gesture, but this is also reserved for an ios gesture (app overview), so every time I open the overview I open and resize (large) the bottom panel as well, because the gestures overlap.

I personally would think that a simple change of the gesture to tap instead of swipe to open would fix it, or alternatively an open/close toggle button.
